
India Unit
March 2010
This unit will introduce both ancient and present day India. Students will spend the first two weeks exploring themes and defining features of civilization in Ancient India. They will then use this knowledge to look at the culture and diversity of present day India, and explore why and how such a culturally rich and varying country has evolved.

• Major events/persons in ancient history
• The basic defining features of Hinduism and Caste
• The basic present day geography of India and the surrounding area
• A basic sense of how globalization is occurring in India today (in terms of economics, available health care, available education)

• Identify important parts of India’s geography
• Cite and explain examples of India’s diversity
• Identify and discuss important cultural artifacts from India
